Samoa attends General Assembly of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH)

Samoa sent a delegation to the 5th ordinary Session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), held in Paris from 2nd to 5th June 2014 at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. Samoa’s delegation was led by Honourable Magele Mauiliu, Minister of Education, Sports and Culture and included Matafeo Falana’ipupu Tanielu Aiafi Chief Executive Officer MESC and H.E. Fatumanava III Dr Pa’olelei Luteru, Ambassador of Samoa in Brussels.

Samoa presented its candidature for one of the membership Group IV seats of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for the period 2014-2018. Elections were held during the 5th General Assembly. The election results were very close and Samoa, unfortunately, missed out on securing a seat.
