Samoa Parliamentarian in Brussels for the 49th Session of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly
Hon. Gatoloaifaana Amataga Alesana Gidlow (MP) attended the 49th Session of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly and the Inter-Sessional Meetings of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly that was held in Brussels, Belgium from 21st March 2018. During the Session, parliamentarians and representatives discussed a strong parliamentary dimension in the ACP-EU post-Cotonou Relations; the impact of illegal trade in phytosanitary products, seeds and other agricultural inputs in ACP countries’ economies; and, the social and environmental consequences of urbanization, particularly the sound management of industrial and domestic waste in ACP countries. These topics will be adopted in the form of Resolutions at the 35th Session of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly to be held in June 2018. In preparation for the 36th Session of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly to be held in Benin in December, the parliamentarians and representatives further discussed SME development at the heart of economic transformation in ACP Countries; the fight against cyber-crime and drug trafficking; and, combating the destabilizing effects of wildlife trafficking in ACP countries and promoting the implementation of the external dimension of the EU Action Plan against wildlife trafficking.
