Samoa participates in the ACP Non-State Actors Consultation Meeting

The 2019 Non-State Actors (NSA) Consultation Meeting on Post-Cotonou Agreement Negotiations was held at the ACP House in Brussels on 7th – 8th March 2019.

Mr Fuimaono Falefa Lima, Chief Executive Officer of the Samoa Umbrella for Non-Governmental Organisations Inc. (SUNGO), was one of three Pacific NSA representatives who attended the meeting.

The purpose of the meeting was to provide NSA from the three ACP regions with an update on the ACP-EU negotiations and to ensure closer involvement of these actors in the ongoing process. Specifically, the Meeting provided NSA with a platform to be informed of and discuss the state of play of the current ACP-EU negotiations, the future of ACP-EU relations post-2020, and the relevant cross-cutting issues.

As the Chairperson of one of the ACP Technical Negotiating Teams, Samoa’s Ambassador to Europe H.E. Fatumanava III Dr Pa’olelei Luteru presented an overview of the state of play of current negotiations under Pillar II which covers “Development Cooperation, Technology, Science and Innovation and Research”.

At the conclusion of the Meeting, the NSA representatives drafted an Action Plan stating the outcomes of the meeting and the proposals agreed upon to be submitted to the ACP negotiating group for their consideration.
